The Coming Up of the Kia Optima

The mid-size 4 door sedan we have all come to know has been in production for almost 16 years. Through countless redesigns, Kia has always stuck to the original idea behind the vehicle; a highly efficient and safe family sedan. It was first released way back in the year 2000. While most countries accepted the name “Optima”, some preferred to go by different names such as the Magentis in Europe or the Lotze and K5 in South Korea.

The original model had a little different power under the hood than we are used to today. It had a 2.5 Liter V6 engine. This was the only engine offered for the model back then. For a while, the only changes made to the vehicle were exterior, cosmetic changes such as the new grille added in 2003 and redesigned headlights in 2004. In 2001, the company did raise the bar with a 2.5 Liter Delta V6 engine and again in 2002 with a 2.4 liter Sirius II I4. Throughout the past 16 years, the only place this model has gone is up.

Now that we know about the past, let’s take a look at what is offered by the Optima today. Your choice of 1.6 liter Gamma G4FJ Turbocharged Inline Four-Cylinder engine, 2.0 Liter Theta II Turbocharged Inline Four-Cylinder engine, or a 2.4 Liter Theta GDi Naturally-Aspirated Inline Four-Cylinder engine. The possibilities are endless when it comes to the Kia Optima.
